Italy has denied entry to the US military base in Sigonella on the island of Sicily.
“Elchi” reports that, according to the newspaper “Corriere della Sera”, this happened a few days ago, but the information was kept secret.
The Italian Air Force General Staff informed the Chief of the Defense General Staff, Luciano Portolano, that the flight plan of several American bombers required them to land at Sigonella Air Force Base before continuing to the Middle East. No consultations were held with the Italian military leadership; the publication writes that the plan was sent to the Italian authorities only after the American planes had already taken off.
It should be recalled that Spain had previously closed its airspace and military bases for US operations against Iran to avoid the escalation of the conflict.
