For the first time, 7 universities from Azerbaijan were represented in 22 subjects in the 2026 ‘QS World University Rankings by Subject’.Information regarding this was provided to “Elchi” by the Ministry of Science and Education.It was reported that this year, the number of our universities included in the ranking has approximately doubled, and the number of subjects we are represented in has increased by 4 times: “1 university from Azerbaijan (Baku State University) entered the top 100 in the mentioned ranking for the first time. In the current edition of the ranking, the results of Baku State University, Azerbaijan State University of Economics, and Azerbaijan University of Languages have further improved. Azerbaijan State Oil and Industry University was again included in the mentioned ranking this year. Our other 3 universities (Baku Engineering University, Azerbaijan University of Architecture and Construction, and Azerbaijan Technical University) entered this ranking for the first time.””This year, the percentage change dynamics of Azerbaijani universities’ positions is higher compared to Turkey, Kazakhstan, and Uzbekistan.This ranking, which evaluates nearly 1900 higher education institutions and over 21000 study programs across more than 100 countries worldwide, covers 5 broad subject areas and 55 disciplines. During the evaluation, 5 indicators (academic reputation, employer reputation, citations per paper, H-index, and international research network index) are taken into account,” the ministry stated.It was noted that Azerbaijan is the only country in the South Caucasus region included in the relevant ranking.
