Persons detained for stealing car license plates and demanding money from owners in Sabunchu

Theft incidents have occurred in the Sabunchu district of the capital.

According to information provided to “Elchi” by the Ministry of Internal Affairs, victims reported to the police that the state registration plates of their vehicles had been stolen under unknown circumstances. As a result of measures taken by employees of the 13th Police Department of Sabunchu DPD, 33-year-old Hasan Safarli, suspected of committing the act, was identified and detained.

Investigations revealed that after stealing the state registration plates of cars, the detained person placed his mobile number on the vehicles. Subsequently, when car owners contacted that number, he demanded money from them to return the plates. It was found that he committed similar crimes in other areas of the capital using this method.

During another operation carried out by employees of the Sabunchu DPD 13th Police Department, 27-year-old Elchin Khalilov, who had been previously convicted multiple times and was suspected of breaking the windows of 2 cars to steal cash from vehicles, as well as looting non-ferrous metals from an object located in the district, was also identified and detained.

Investigations regarding both individuals are ongoing at the Police Department.
