Europe begins the season of filling depleted underground gas storage facilities

Europe begins the season of filling depleted underground storage facilities with gas.

“Elchi” reports that “Bloomberg” agency has disseminated information about this.

The agency noted that this will force the region to intensify competition for supplies with Asian buyers.

According to the Gas Infrastructure Europe Association, gas reserves in the Netherlands’ underground gas storage facilities have fallen to a historic low of approximately 6%. “Bloomberg” writes that in Germany, which has the largest storage capacity in the region, the reserve level is also significantly below the usual level – approximately 22%.

It should be noted that some time ago, European Commissioner for Energy Dan Jørgensen called on countries to fill the storage facilities ahead of schedule. The European Commission recommended showing “flexibility” in the process of filling gas storage facilities and proposed reducing the minimum filling level to 80% by next winter, which is 10% lower than the level required since 2022.
