Cuban Deputy Foreign Minister Carlos Fernandez de Cossio announced that they are making military preparations in the face of a possible attack from the United States.
“Elchi” reports that Fernandes de Cossio, speaking to NBC News, stated that they pose “absolutely” no threat to the United States, and therefore, the embargo and military threats against the island nation have no legitimate basis.
Addressing the possibility of a military attack from the US, Fernandes de Cossio said:
“Our armed forces are always prepared. In fact, they are currently continuing their preparations against the possibility of a military attack. Our country, as a nation, is always ready to mobilize in the face of a military attack. To be honest, we always consider this a very remote possibility. We don’t see the likelihood of it happening, but we would be naive not to prepare for it.”
Fernandes de Cossio stated that Cuba is a peace-loving country and is ready for any dialogue to sit down at the table with the United States.
Addressing the difficulties caused by the US embargo, Fernandes de Cossio said: “This is a very serious situation, and we are acting as actively as possible to overcome the existing conditions. We hope that this embargo will not be eternal and permanent.” Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel stated on March 13 that the island nation has not received oil from abroad for approximately three months, and its electricity system currently operates solely on solar energy, natural gas, and existing thermal power plants.
