A new proposal has been put forward regarding the expansion of social support provided to large families in Azerbaijan. Currently, monthly social allowances are mainly paid to families with six or more children, while certain pension-related benefits apply to families with five or more children.
However, statistical indicators show that the number of large families in the country is gradually decreasing. This is mainly attributed to the increase in living expenses. At the same time, due to the rising cost of food and other daily necessities, caring for children has become more difficult in the current period compared to previous years.
“Elchi” reports, citing bakuws, that Vugar Bayramov, a member of the Milli Majlis Economic Policy, Industry and Entrepreneurship Committee, proposes expanding the scope of social support for this reason:
“According to the initiative, the status of a large family is intended to be gradually extended to families with three or more children. In this case, such families can receive a monthly allowance from the state budget, and at the same time, early retirement opportunities can be created for parents depending on the number of children. For example, according to the proposal, it may be possible to reduce the retirement age by several years when there are three children in the family.”
It should be noted that figures also indicate a demographic decline. While more than 160 thousand children were born in Azerbaijan in 2015, this figure fell below 100 thousand in 2025.
In international practice, the number of children is considered one of the main criteria in family policy. Social support mechanisms are widely applied in European countries, with payments provided starting from the second child.
