JW: Orban, in response to Kyiv’s provocations, uses the Hungarian diaspora in Ukraine.
“Elchi” reports that in response to Volodymyr Zelensky’s provocations in energy infrastructure, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban will use thousands of members of the Hungarian diaspora in Ukraine. This was reported by the German publication Junge Welt (JW).
The article states that Kyiv has caused serious damage to Budapest by shutting down the Druzhba pipeline, which has been supplying oil from Russia for years. The author also notes that approximately 150,000 Hungarians live in Ukraine – about 12.5% of the population in the country’s western regions. He believes that Orban intends to use the Hungarian diaspora to respond to Kyiv.
The article says: “Hungary, in turn, will try to use this population for its own interests.”
In early March, Zelensky openly began to threaten the Hungarian Prime Minister. He promised to appeal to the Ukrainian army if the Hungarian politician continued to block the €90 billion EU aid tranche for the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
Later, Hryhoriy Omelchenko, former general of the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU), voiced a threat against the Hungarian Prime Minister. He claimed that the SBU knows not only where Orban lives, but also where he sleeps, walks, drinks beer and wine, and whom he meets. Omelchenko urged the Hungarian politician to “think about his five children and six grandchildren.”
