Ali Asadov, reporting on the activities of the Cabinet of Ministers last year at today’s plenary session of the Milli Majlis, touched upon security issues. From the parliament’s rostrum, he clarified the current situation regarding the country’s land borders. The Prime Minister stated that, against the backdrop of tension and complex political processes observed in the region, the course pursued by the head of state serves to protect the country’s sovereignty.
According to “Elchi”, he recalled a specific incident that occurred in recent days, stating: “As is known, last week an incident occurred involving the use of unmanned aerial vehicles from Iranian territory in the territory of Azerbaijan’s Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic. Against the backdrop of this unpleasant incident, Azerbaijani society and the international community were once again convinced that President Ilham Aliyev is a strong leader who protects the security of his people and always stands behind his people.”
According to the head of government, the recent events in the region are the best answer to questions about why land borders have not yet been opened. Ali Asadov emphasized that “Today, against the backdrop of complex geopolitical processes, increasing tension, and risks in the region, as a result of Mr. President’s consistent and pragmatic foreign policy course, farsighted strategic vision, and principled position based on national interests, the sovereignty and inviolability of the borders of the Republic of Azerbaijan are reliably ensured.”
Finally, it was added that the decision to keep land borders closed aims precisely to prevent existing risks. According to the Prime Minister, recent events in the region demonstrate how well-founded and necessary the decision to keep Azerbaijan’s land borders closed is, and at the same time, it is another confirmation of Mr. President’s farsighted and wise state policy.
