The European Union is committed to cooperation with Azerbaijan

“Azerbaijan’s regional role is important, and the European Union is committed to cooperation with Azerbaijan. These thoughts belong to Antonio Costa, President of the European Council, who visited our country, and undoubtedly are based on current realities. Azerbaijan has gained a reputation as an important partner in the global arena with a balanced, honest political strategy and holds a unique place on Europe’s energy map. The meeting between President Ilham Aliyev and Antonio Costa was marked by important moments.”

“Elchi” reports that these remarks were made by Rashad Mahmudov, a member of the Milli Majlis.

He noted that during the meeting, President Ilham Aliyev stated that the partnership between the European Union and Azerbaijan is rapidly developing, especially in the energy and trade sectors, that our country has become an important gas supplier for Europe, and that cooperation will further expand in the future. The President also emphasized that our country will increase energy exports to Europe by developing renewable energy projects, and that peace and the opening of transport corridors in the region will create new economic opportunities.

The President of the European Council touched upon the importance of Azerbaijan’s regional role, spoke about the conflicts in Iran and the Middle East, and strongly condemned the attack on Nakhchivan airport by Iran, stating that regional stability and security must be protected in accordance with the principles of international law and UN norms. The European Union is committed to working with all partners through dialogue and diplomacy to de-escalate tensions and protect civilians. Further escalation of the situation threatens not only the Middle East but also Europe and the global scale. At the same time, recent events show a disturbing trend of violent activity contrary to international law. The high guest also noted that the Russia-Ukraine war has been ongoing for five years and remains a serious threat to Europe, significantly impacting the global situation. Against the backdrop of such complex global instability, strengthening relations with Azerbaijan is more important than ever. In this regard, the European Union eagerly awaits Azerbaijan’s hosting of the European Political Community Summit in 2028.

The deputy finally emphasized that, undoubtedly, this high trust is a clear expression of great respect and confidence shown to both Azerbaijan and its internationally influential leader. The European Union’s emphasis on cooperation with Azerbaijan is also not accidental. Antonio Costa’s statement that “we are committed to creating future opportunities together with Azerbaijan” is a clear indicator of this.
