Sanctions, fines, and imprisonment penalties will be applied in Azerbaijan for engaging in begging.
“Elchi” reports that the addition of a new article to the Code of Administrative Offenses is proposed in this regard.
The draft law was brought up for discussion at a joint meeting of the Legal Policy and State Building, and Human Rights committees of the National Assembly.
According to the draft, for engaging in begging, a warning will be issued, or a fine ranging from 100 to 200 manats will be applied, or, taking into account the circumstances of the case and the identity of the offender, if the application of these measures is deemed insufficient, administrative arrest for a period of up to 10 days will be envisaged.
At the same time, for involving a minor in begging, a fine ranging from 200 to 500 manats will be imposed, or, taking into account the circumstances of the case and the identity of the offender, if the application of these measures is deemed insufficient, administrative arrest for a period of up to 15 days will be applied.
It should be recalled that in the current code, the act of engaging in begging was noted as “Engaging in vagrancy”.
