Panic in South Korea! US withdraws missile defense batteries

The US has begun moving parts of its THAAD (Terminal High Altitude Area Defense) and some Patriot missile defense systems from its bases in South Korea to the Middle East. South Korea is concerned that this will create a defense shortfall in the country.
“Elchi” reports that these systems are among the most advanced US defense platforms used to intercept ballistic missiles at high altitudes. The purpose of the deployment is to strengthen US bases in the Middle East against potential missile and drone attacks from Iran.
Intensive military activity is observed at bases in Korea
Numerous US transport aircraft are reportedly landing and taking off around Osan Air Base in South Korea. This activity has reinforced reports that Patriot and THAAD batteries are being relocated.
South Korean government dissatisfied with the decision
South Korean President Lee Jae-myung stated that they cannot prevent the US from moving some defense systems to the Middle East, but this decision has caused controversy in the country.
The Seoul administration still claims that deterrence against North Korea continues. Some Korean politicians and analysts say this move could weaken the US’s security commitment in Asia.
Why did the US take such a step?
According to analysts, there are three main reasons for this: Iran’s missile and drone attacks, the expansion of US-Israeli operations, and the increasing need to protect bases in the Middle East. Therefore, the Pentagon is temporarily relocating some defense systems from Asia to the Middle East.
