Number of virtual cards in Azerbaijan increased by 24 percent

As of January 1 this year, the number of virtual cards in Azerbaijan was 2.3 million, which is 24.6% more than on January 1 last year.

“Elchi” reports this with reference to the Central Bank of Azerbaijan (CBA).

According to the information, as of the reporting date, virtual cards accounted for 10.7% of payment cards in circulation.

By the end of last year, the number of payment cards in circulation was 22 million, and 91.6% of payment cards, excluding virtual cards, supported contactless payments. Compared to the end of the previous year, the number of payment cards increased by 10.5%. Debit cards accounted for 90.6% (19.9 million units) of the cards, and credit cards accounted for 9.4% (2.1 million units).

In 2025, the total amount of transactions carried out with payment cards within the country increased by 19.3% compared to 2024, reaching 146.7 billion manats, including the volume of non-cash payments, which increased by 25.6% to 99.1 billion manats.
