Binəli Yıldırım: International system lags behind modern realities

“Agreements signed to ensure global security are currently both the most necessary and the most outdated mechanisms.”

“Elchi” reports that this was stated by Binəli Yıldırım, Chairman of the Council of Elders of the Organization of Turkic States (OTS), during his speech at the XIII Global Baku Forum.

B. Yıldırım noted that the management of the world order is still carried out according to archaic rules formed after World War II:

“The working methods of international organizations are not flexible, and the slowness of processes undermines confidence in multilateral cooperation.”

Emphasizing the importance of reviewing the composition of the Security Council, he stressed the necessity of regional representation, especially for the Muslim world to have a say in global decisions.

He stated that states must remain loyal to the charter and not use institutions as tools for their personal interests.

Finally, B. Yıldırım drew attention to the inevitability of reforms and the importance of increasing collective efforts for international institutions to be more effective.
