US Congress Criticizes Trump and Hegseth on Iran Issue

Congressman Beyer: Trump and Hegseth cannot articulate the goals of the operation in Iran.“Elchi” reports that US President Donald Trump and Pentagon Secretary Pete Hegseth are still unable to formulate a clear justification for a war against Iran, state its objectives, or provide a clear timetable for the operation. Representative Don Beyer (R-S.C.) wrote this on the social media site X.
“Neither Donald Trump nor Pete Hegseth can provide a clear justification for this war, its understandable objectives, or a clear timetable for its implementation. Congress should not write a carte blanche for an unnecessary war that remains illegal and without proper authorization,” he wrote.
On February 28, the day the US operation against Iran began, US President Donald Trump explained that Iran “has rejected every opportunity to abandon its nuclear ambitions.” Pete Hegseth later noted that the operation targeted the country’s security infrastructure, namely Iran’s offensive missiles, missile production, navy, etc.
Hegseth also stated that Iran’s post-war structure should take into account US interests and eliminate the threat posed by Iranian missiles and Tehran’s potential nuclear blackmail.
On March 9, Trump announced that the US operation against Iran was “virtually complete,” as Tehran had already been deprived of its navy, communications, and air forces. However, Hegseth noted that the conflict “is just beginning” and will end with Tehran’s surrender.
