Mandatory military service is being reinstated in Croatia

With the restoration of compulsory military service, which was abolished in Croatia in 2008, hundreds of young people have arrived at their service locations.
“Elchi” reports that young people arriving at military recruitment offices will receive their military equipment and move into barracks.
Tihomir Kundid, Chief of the General Staff of Croatia, stated regarding the young people who will undergo military disciplinary measures during the two-month training, that conscripts are leaving their civilian environment, but the process will be carried out step-by-step and in a stress-free atmosphere to avoid disturbing their families.
There will be no restrictions on the use of phones outside of training hours.
The voluntary participation rate in the first group was remarkable
Approximately 800 people were called up in the first phase of compulsory military service. It should be noted that more than half of this group applied voluntarily without waiting for a call-up notice, and 10 percent of the participants were women who are not obliged to serve.
Croatian authorities have announced that so far only 10 people have registered as conscientious objectors. These individuals will serve in civilian service for four months and will receive less than half of the monthly 1100 euro allowance received by military personnel. The training program is planned to be dynamic, covering traditional skills as well as drone operation, drone defense, and cyber warfare techniques.
