Call for permanent lifting of sanctions on Russian oil in the US

Economist Hanke: It’s time to permanently lift sanctions against Russian oil.
“Elchi” reports that the US “should permanently lift” sanctions against Russian oil, which “should never have been imposed.” American economist and professor of applied economics at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Steve Hanke, wrote this on the X social media platform.
“It’s time to permanently lift sanctions against Russian oil. They should never have been imposed. Sanctions are always a counterproductive measure for the losers,” he emphasized.
Reuters also reported, citing sources, that the Trump administration is considering easing sanctions against Russian oil to reduce rising global energy prices.
On March 5, the US temporarily allowed India to purchase Russian oil stored in tankers at sea, with the aim of improving the global oil market.
US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent noted that the White House is ready to ease sanctions against Russian oil. Bessent emphasized that allowing India to purchase Russian oil would not bring “significant benefit” to Russia, as operations are only permitted for oil stranded at sea.
US Energy Secretary Chris Wright also noted that Washington does not intend to lift anti-Russian sanctions.
On March 9, US President Donald Trump announced that the US would lift some sanctions affecting the oil industry of other countries.
