The Commission of the Milli Majlis (National Assembly) Against Foreign Interference and Hybrid Threats has adopted a Statement regarding UAV attacks on the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic of the Republic of Azerbaijan from the territory of the Islamic Republic of Iran.
According to “Elchi”‘s report, the Statement says that on March 5, 2026, attacks were carried out against the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic with unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) equipped with explosive warheads from the territory of the Islamic Republic of Iran.
It was noted that one of the UAVs damaged the terminal building of Nakhchivan International Airport, while another fell near a secondary school building in Shakarabad village of Babek district. During the attacks, four civilians were identified as injured:
“We consider the targeting of the Airport, which is the only international air gate of the Autonomous Republic, and civilian infrastructure as a violation of the norms and principles of international law, and an act of assassination and terrorism aimed at the territorial integrity and sovereignty of our state.”
The Commission considers this treacherous act carried out by Iran, which combines military, political, and informational components, also a hybrid attack operation. At the same time, it is observed that an information campaign supporting Iran’s activities and the spread of manipulative opinions are being conducted in the Azerbaijani social media segment.
There is no doubt that these attacks were carried out with the aim of creating confusion and fear among our citizens, undermining trust in relevant state institutions, and damaging Azerbaijan’s regional position and international reputation.
The Azerbaijani side reserves the right to take appropriate retaliatory measures within the framework of international law.
The Commission Against Foreign Interference and Hybrid Threats calls on our citizens and compatriots living abroad to believe in the strength of our state and official information.
