On March 5, Georgia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Maka Botchorishvili called the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
According to information provided to “Elchi” by the MFA, during the phone conversation, the ministers discussed the situation that arose as a result of Iran’s drone attacks against our country.
Minister Jeyhun Bayramov informed his counterpart about the drone attacks carried out by Iran against the territory of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic on March 5.
As a result, the terminal building of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic airport was damaged, and civilians were injured. Additionally, one of the drones fell near a school building in Shakarabad village.
Minister Jeyhun Bayramov emphasized that this attack carried out against the territory of the Republic of Azerbaijan is contrary to the norms and principles of international law and serves to increase tension in the region.
It was brought to attention that the Azerbaijani side demands clarification of the issue by Iran in a short period, provision of an appropriate explanation, and the taking of necessary urgent measures to prevent such incidents from recurring in the future.
Georgia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Maka Botchorishvili expressed her concern regarding the incident and noted the importance of maintaining stability and security in the region.
During the phone conversation, the parties also exchanged views on other issues of mutual interest.
