Explosion on oil tanker reported near Kuwait

An explosion has been reported on an oil tanker near Kuwait.
“Elchi” reports that the UK Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) stated an explosion occurred on an oil tanker approximately 55 kilometers southeast of Kuwait’s Mubarak Al-Kabeer port.
The statement said that the captain of the tanker, which was anchored in the area, reported seeing an explosion on the port side of the vessel and a small boat moving away from the area.
The statement noted that the oil tanker began to sink and oil was leaking into the sea, but emphasized that no fire had occurred.
The statement also noted that crew members were unharmed and safe.
Kuwait denies the incident occurred in its territorial waters
The Kuwaiti Ministry of Interior denied that the explosion on the oil tanker occurred off the coast of Mubarak Al-Kabeer port. The statement noted that the incident took place outside Kuwait’s territorial waters, at least 60 kilometers away from Mubarak Al-Kabeer port.
