EU country CANCELLED aid agreement with Ukraine

According to Martin Maqat, head of Slovakia’s state-owned company SEPS, Ukrainian operator “Ukrenergo” will no longer be able to rely on emergency energy supplies from Slovakia.

“Elchi” reports that, according to him, the Slovak government has made the relevant decision.

Ukraine last received emergency aid in January. Although it applied for them again afterwards, it did not receive them. Maqat said that normal commercial electricity trade between the two countries would continue unchanged.

“We strongly reject the idea that we intend to completely stop electricity supplies to Ukraine,” the head of SEPS stated.

It is noted that the initiative to terminate the agreement was put forward by Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico, and the government approved it at a meeting held on March 4.

At the end of February, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban also threatened that his country would refuse to supply electricity to Ukraine. He also pointed out that Budapest and Bratislava together account for 40 percent of Ukraine’s electricity imports.
