Markus Tsahkna: Estonia may confiscate Russia’s personal assets.
“Elchi” reports that the Estonian authorities are preparing to confiscate Russia’s personal assets. Estonian Foreign Minister Markus Tsahkna told Izvestia about this.
He explained that Tallinn has frozen personal Russian assets. Estonia is currently working with Ukraine to develop a mechanism to use frozen Russian assets to meet Kyiv’s needs. If the conflict ends, the damage will be registered in international courts in The Hague, Ukraine will file a lawsuit against Russia, and if Russia refuses to pay compensation, the frozen Russian assets will be used through this mechanism.
However, Tsahkna did not rule out the possibility of complete confiscation of the property of Russian citizens. On January 16, it was reported that the American investment fund Noble Capital RSD wanted to borrow $225.8 billion from Russia on Russian Empire bonds. The fund stated that the debt could be paid through Russian assets frozen in the West, and in this case, it would not be considered confiscation.
