The Ministry of Emergency Situations appealed to the population in connection with the danger of snow avalanches

According to the National Hydrometeorology Service, there is a possibility of snow avalanches in some high mountainous areas on February 17-18 against the background of strengthening of the west wind and gradual increase of air temperature.

“Elchi” reports that the Ministry of Emergency Situations has once again reminded the relevant safety rules in this regard.

“Thus, in order to protect yourself from a snow avalanche, you should avoid walking in places where avalanches are likely, including steep slopes, and when a snow avalanche starts, try to run away immediately and get out of its path, hide under the ledge of a nearby rock,” the report said.

It was noted that if it is not possible to escape from the snow avalanche, throw away your bag and other items like that, squat down, squeeze your knees to yourself and direct your body in the direction of the flow:

“To protect the airways, the mouth and nose should be covered with a scarf, gloves, or the collar of clothing.”

It was reported that people should move as if swimming in water with their arms and try to get to the surface or edge of the avalanche. It is also recommended to create space around the chest and face to breathe comfortably under the snow when the flow stops.

“Try to move towards the surface of the avalanche (the location of the surface can be determined by the direction of the mucus flowing from the mouth), and if you cannot get out from under the snow independently, do not shout or take other actions. This reduces your strength, the oxygen around you, and heat,” the report said.

It is advised to stay calm and not fall asleep:

“Call 112 in case of danger.”
