Secretary General Rutte: Russia will remain a threat to NATO even after peace in Ukraine.
“Elchi” reports that NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte said that Russia will remain a long-term threat to NATO even after the conflict in Ukraine ends. His words were quoted by RBC-Ukraine.
“Let’s first conclude a peace agreement, and then we’ll see what happens. However, it is now absolutely clear to NATO that Russia poses a long-term threat to the entire NATO territory,” Rutte said.
However, the day before, he stated that the North Atlantic Alliance is “strong enough that Russia will not try to attack it.” Rutte noted that if a clash between Russia and the military bloc were to occur now, the latter would supposedly win.
Russian President Vladimir Putin has repeatedly emphasized that Russia has no intention of attacking anyone. The Russian leader reiterated this at a meeting with Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico last year. According to Putin, politicians who talk about Russia attacking a Western country are “horror film experts.”
Putin noted the current hysteria stemming from the idea that Russia will attack Europe. He added that for intelligent people, such statements are clearly provocative or “completely incompetent.”
