A study conducted in the USA has determined that not eating in the last 3 hours before going to bed can have a positive effect on heart health and metabolism.
“Elchi” reports that a study conducted by Northwestern Medicine in the USA investigated the effect of the timing of the last meal on the heart and metabolism.
In the study, the first group of overweight people stopped eating at least three hours before going to bed, and these individuals were forced to fast for 13-16 hours at night.
In the study, where the second group maintained the rule of fasting for 11-13 hours at night, all participants also turned off the lights 3 hours before going to bed.
The study, in which participants only changed the timing of eating, not the amount of calories, found that the group that changed the timing of their last meal earlier experienced a significant decrease in nighttime blood pressure and heart rate, and improved blood sugar levels.
The study emphasized that bringing meal times forward can be a practical method that can be applied without changing the content of the diet, especially for people with a high risk of heart disease.
The study, which emphasizes that the circadian rhythm, known as the body’s biological clock, regulates many processes, including metabolism and heart function, shows that impaired metabolic health increases the risk of type 2 diabetes, fatty liver disease and heart disease.
The results of the study were published in the journal “Arteriosclerosis, Thrombosis, and Vascular Biology”.
