The CIA has released a new video targeting Chinese officers in the Chinese government who are concerned about corruption and President Xi Jinping’s large-scale purge of military personnel. The video tells the story of a fictional mid-level officer who decides to contact the CIA to remain true to his values and secure his future.
“Elchi” reports that the host of the video says: “Anyone with leadership ability will inevitably be feared and ruthlessly destroyed. I cannot allow this evidence to shape my daughter’s future world.”
Efforts to Rebuild the Espionage Network
CIA officials say the recruitment campaign launched last year is already paying off and they are gaining new resources essential for gathering human intelligence within China.
CIA Director John Ratcliffe said in a statement on the matter: “We will continue to offer Chinese government officials and citizens the opportunity to work together for a brighter future.”
This move is seen as part of years of reconstruction efforts following the large-scale dismantling of the US spy network in China in 2010.
An official emphasized that Xi Jinping’s government is not completely protected from US intelligence, saying, “The videos work, but the wall they have built is not perfect.”
