Turkish MPs Scuffled at Swearing-in Ceremony

A fight broke out between members of the country’s parliament in Turkey during the appointment of the Minister of Justice.

Elchi.az reports with reference to foreign media that the incident occurred during the swearing-in ceremony. Opposition MPs tried to seize the podium, which led to a fight with members of the ruling party.

Members of parliament pushed and punched each other, resulting in one MP suffering a nose injury. Despite the incident, the ceremony was completed, and the parliamentary session was adjourned.

Mustafa Çiftici was appointed Minister of Internal Affairs, and Akın Gürlek, the former prosecutor of Istanbul, was appointed Minister of Justice. Last year, he issued an order for the arrest of Istanbul Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu, which caused mass protests.
