Simon Stiell, Executive Secretary of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), thanked Azerbaijan.
Stiell expressed his gratitude to Brazil, which will preside over COP30, and Azerbaijan, which will preside over COP29, during his speech at a press conference in Istanbul in preparation for COP31.
He also emphasized that COP31, which will be held in Antalya, will be effective:
“I would like to thank Brazil, which is currently presiding over COP30, and Azerbaijan, which is presiding over COP29. It is clear that COP31, which will be held in Antalya, will take place in an extraordinary period. We are in a new environment of global disorder. This is a period of instability and distrust. It is a time of power demonstrations and trade wars. The concept of international cooperation is under direct attack. But climate action can bring stability to an unstable world,” said Simon Stiell.
