Indonesia Turns Highways into Airstrips for Fighter Jets

Indonesia is implementing a plan to turn toll roads within the country into emergency airstrips for fighter jets. The strategy aims to use highways as efficient “aircraft carriers” throughout the vast archipelago.
Elchi.az reports that Indonesian Air Force Commander Marshal Tonny Harjono stated that they expect at least one section of highway in each of the country’s 39 provinces to be suitable for use as an emergency landing strip.
During a training exercise in Lampung province, an F-16 fighter jet and a Super Tucano attack aircraft successfully landed and took off from a highway, demonstrating this capability.
Deputy Minister of Defense Donny Ermawan Taufanto stated that this achievement is a significant milestone in strengthening the defense system.
