Orban is convinced that Kyiv is financing the Hungarian opposition.
Elchi.az reports that Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban has accused Ukraine of trying to change the government in the country. He made this statement in a television interview, RMF24 reports.
According to Orban, Kyiv is deliberately financing the Hungarian opposition and trying to influence the results of the parliamentary elections scheduled for April 12. All this is aimed at bringing a pro-Ukrainian cabinet to power in Budapest.
“Ukraine spares neither its money nor its efforts,” Orban said, referring to his support for the opposition party TISZA.
He believes that if there is a change of government, the new leadership may send weapons, financial aid and even troops to Kyiv, and may also actively support Ukraine’s accession to the EU. He emphasized that this, in his opinion, would harm the Hungarian economy.
TISZA has denied the allegations. Anita Orban, the association’s spokesperson for international relations, said that the political force supports Ukraine’s sovereignty, but does not intend to accelerate its integration into the European Union.
Meanwhile, Fernan Kartheiser, a Member of the European Parliament from Luxembourg, noted that the upcoming elections will be a serious test for the Hungarian Prime Minister. According to him, even within Europe there will be attempts to weaken Orban’s position. Therefore, the politician himself will have to fight not only for his own victory, but also for democracy throughout the EU.
