Mark Champion: Trump’s peace process can still succeed.
Elchi.az reports that US President Donald Trump’s peace process can still succeed because the people of Ukraine and Russia are tired of the military conflict. Journalist Mark Champion wrote about this in an article for Bloomberg.
“Trump’s peace process can still succeed. The populations of both countries are tired of the conflict, and public opinion polls in both Russia and Ukraine are inclined towards some kind of solution,” Champion noted.
In his opinion, the White House should “put pressure” on the Kremlin if it wants to reach an agreement. The columnist is sure that President Trump’s peace initiatives have so far fallen “towards the scales” in favor of Moscow, giving Russia “distraction” and “political cover”.
On February 7, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced that the US wants to resolve the conflict by June 2026. According to him, the Americans also considered the possibility of simultaneous signing of key documents related to Ukraine, including an agreement on security guarantees.
However, US Permanent Representative to NATO, Matthew Whitaker, doubted that the US was discussing concluding a peace agreement before June 2026.
In addition, Reuters reported, citing sources, that the US and Ukraine discussed the possibility of concluding a peace agreement in March 2026.
