Command of three NATO headquarters transferred to Europe

Command positions at NATO’s regional headquarters in the US (Norfolk), Italy (Naples), and the Netherlands (Brunssum) have been transferred from the US to European countries.

Elchi.az reports that this is stated in the alliance’s statement.

The statement notes that on February 6, NATO countries agreed on a new distribution of positions in the command structure. Within this framework, European allies, including newly joined countries, will play a more important role.

According to the information, Great Britain will lead NATO’s command in Norfolk (responsible for naval operations and exercises in the North Atlantic). Italy will take command in Naples (planning operations in the Mediterranean region), while Poland and Germany will lead the command in Brunssum on a rotational basis (including responsibility for the Eastern European direction).

It is noted that all these positions previously belonged to the United States.
