The actual powers of the Peace Council, established on the initiative of US President Donald Trump, remain unknown.
Elchi.az reports that Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said this at the 15th Middle East Conference of the Valdai International Discussion Club.
“The Peace Council has been established. A structure reporting to the Peace Council has been established, including an executive structure consisting of Palestinian technocrats. Their actual powers are unknown,” the minister said.
He added that the Russian side hopes that these issues will be clarified.
On January 22, within the framework of the World Economic Forum in Davos, representatives of 19 countries signed the Charter of the Peace Council, which was created as part of the peace settlement in the Gaza Strip. Washington has announced that other states have also joined the organization.
The Peace Council was established on the basis of an agreement between Israel and the radical Palestinian HAMAS movement to govern Gaza, but it is also expected to participate in the prevention and resolution of conflicts in other regions.
