The US has once again called on its citizens in Iran to “leave the country immediately,” citing ongoing security risks.
Elchi.az reports that the US Virtual Embassy in Tehran issued a security alert urging US citizens to “make plans to leave Iran without the need for assistance from the Washington administration.”
The statement noted that security measures have been increased in Iran, roads have been closed, public transportation has been disrupted, and internet access is still blocked.
The statement also noted that the Iranian government continues to restrict access to mobile, landline, and national internet networks, and airlines have restricted or canceled flights to and from Iran. The statement reads: “Leave Iran immediately. Make a plan to leave Iran independent of US government assistance.”
The statement emphasized that if US citizens are unable to leave Iran, they should designate a shelter or secure building in their place of residence and stockpile enough food, water, medicine, and essential supplies.
It was also suggested that US citizens plan alternative means of communication and travel overland from Iran to Turkey or Armenia if it is safe to do so.
White House spokeswoman Karoline Livitt previously stated that President Donald Trump considers diplomacy with Iran his first choice, but that there are many other options besides diplomacy.
On January 13, the US also called on its citizens in Iran to “leave the country immediately,” citing ongoing protests and security risks.
