Recent changes in the education sector in Arab countries have attracted the attention of the international community. In an interview with Aztv channel, well-known education expert Aisa Aslanova shared detailed views on the development directions of education in the region, opportunities created for foreign students, and the international position of universities.
Elchi.az reports that, according to the expert, interest in education in Arab countries is no longer limited to traditional fields.
Especially STEM specialties, Artificial Intelligence, Oil and Gas Engineering, renewable energy, business, management and fintech fields are highlighted as priority areas. Many countries are allocating large investments to technology-based specialties in preparation for the post-oil era. This approach serves to train young people as competitive personnel in the global labor market.
According to Aisa Aslanova, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia are adapting their education systems to international standards to attract foreign students. Branches of the world’s leading universities operate in these countries, and state-funded full and partial scholarship programs are offered. Simplifying visas for international students, improving campus conditions and creating a student-oriented social environment are also key components of this policy.
Although teaching in state universities is mainly in Arabic, English is used as the main language of instruction in technical, engineering and international programs. In particular, the dominance of English-language programs at the master’s and doctoral levels facilitates the integration of foreign students.
At the same time, a multicultural academic environment allows students to get to know different cultures closely.
The interview emphasized that in recent years, a number of universities in Arab countries have advanced in world rankings. KAUST (Saudi Arabia), Qatar University, as well as higher education institutions located in the UAE are distinguished by a strong scientific research base. Large financial resources allocated by the state are directed to the renewal of laboratories, financing research projects and international academic cooperation.
According to the expert, studying in Arab countries offers a number of important advantages. These include a safe environment, high living standards, a tax-free economic model in some countries, as well as a rapidly developing labor market. In addition, the region’s strategic location between Europe, Asia and Africa opens up wide opportunities for graduates to build careers in international companies. Aisa Aslanova finally noted that Arab countries are already forming not only as regional, but also as global educational centers. Modern specialties, strong financial support and internationally oriented programs make this region attractive for foreign students.
