Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel stated that his country is ready for dialogue with the US based on respect for sovereignty and the right to self-determination.
Elchi.az reports that Diaz-Canel, speaking to a television channel in his country, drew attention to the recent tensions in relations with the US.
Diaz-Canel stated that they want to establish cultural and mutually beneficial relations between neighbors, saying, “We are ready for dialogue with the US based on respect for sovereignty and the right to self-determination.”
Diaz-Canel emphasized that they are open to discussing issues such as immigration, security, drug trafficking, the fight against terrorism, environmental issues, and scientific cooperation with the US government, but set the condition that there should be no interference in his country’s internal affairs.
Stating that they have prepared a defense plan against the increasing aggression of the US, Diaz-Canel said, “Preparing for an attack is a sovereign duty. We will go through difficult days, especially since this period is very difficult.”
Touching upon the oil blockade imposed on his country by the US, Diaz-Canel said: “We have not bought fuel from abroad since December last year. It is reprehensible for a large state to pursue such an aggressive and criminal policy against a small country. This means completely suffocating us. If we don’t resist, will we surrender?”
He noted that food transportation, food production, public transportation, hospitals, schools, and tourism have been severely affected due to the fuel shortage, and stated that they have taken a number of measures against this situation.
According to press reports, Venezuela needs approximately 110,000 barrels of oil per day to meet its energy needs, and it is reported that Venezuela will be able to supply approximately 30,000 barrels of this amount in 2025.
