At least 18 workers have died in an explosion at a private coal mine in the state of Meghalaya in northeastern India.
According to Elchi.az, the Press Trust of India agency reports this with reference to local police.
The incident occurred in a mine operating illegally in the mountainous East Jantia Hills region. The bodies of 18 people were found at the explosion site, and one more person was rescued. According to the agency, several more people may be under the rubble.
Search and rescue operations are ongoing.
