US businessman Elon Musk, owner of X and SpaceX, called Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez a “cruel” and “totalitarian fascist” for announcing that he would ban people under the age of 16 from accessing social media networks and increase legal control over administrators.
Elchi.az reports that on the social media platform account of the US-based company X, Elon Musk shared Sánchez’s speech at the World Government Summit held in Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE). At the summit, he announced that he would ban children under the age of 16 from accessing social media networks and said, “Sánchez is a true fascist totalitarian” and “Dirty Sánchez is a cruel and treacherous traitor who betrays the Spanish people.” In his speech in Dubai, Sánchez announced that they would increase control over social media platforms and take measures to prevent children from accessing them.
He also stated that they will take measures to increase control over digital platforms and hold administrators accountable for violations on these networks.
Sánchez also criticized Elon Musk, saying that social media networks have become “a place where an image of a failed state is attempted to be created, where laws are ignored, crimes are tolerated, disinformation is valued more than reality, and half of the users are subjected to hate attacks.”
Sánchez stated that they were saddened to see that Elon Musk, “even though he is an immigrant himself, used his personal account to spread disinformation about the Spanish government’s sovereign decision to legalize half a million immigrants.”
In a statement in January 2025, the Spanish Prime Minister also targeted Musk, accusing him of “manipulating the X algorithm to spread lies and conduct a smear campaign.”
