Working group created for long-term stay in the EU for some citizens of Western Balkan countries

European Commission officials and ministers from Western Balkan countries have agreed to form a working group to address visa issues requiring non-EU citizens to stay longer in member states.

Elchi.az reports that the working group will be tasked with developing concrete proposals to address the problem.

The meeting discussed proposals by the European Commission for the introduction of extended stays for truck drivers, athletes, musicians and touring stage performers.

According to the proposal, people in this category should be assessed with a special status, not as tourists who are allowed to stay a maximum of 90 days within 180 days.

It should be noted that truck drivers from non-EU former Yugoslav countries – Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro and North Macedonia – closed border crossing points last week to draw attention to their problems.
