The US Treasury Department’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) has announced the imposition of new sanctions against Iran’s Minister of Internal Affairs, Eskandar Momeni, and a number of other officials of the country.
Elchi.az reports that the US Treasury Department has released information about this.
The sanctions list also includes Iranian investor Babak Zanjani. The ministry noted that after being released from prison, he financed projects supporting the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and the activities of state institutions.
In addition, OFAC has included two cryptocurrency exchanges associated with Zanjani on the sanctions list. It is alleged that through them, a large amount of funds was transferred for the needs of the IRGC.
Earlier, the European Union (EU) imposed sanctions against 15 Iranian officials, including I.Momeni, high-ranking commanders of the IRGC, and representatives of the judicial system. The list also includes six Iranian organizations, including the Iranian Audiovisual Media Regulatory Authority and cyber structures.
