Serbian Ambassador Summoned to Montenegrin MFA

Serbian Ambassador Nebojša Rodić has been summoned to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) of Montenegro.

Elchi.az reports that this was shared on the Montenegrin MFA’s “X” social network account.

The diplomat was expressed dissatisfaction with a post on social networks regarding the legal status of the Serbian language in Montenegro.

The discussion concerns a post placed on the official account of the Serbian government’s Directorate for Public and Cultural Diplomacy.

The ministry noted that the comments in the post are rude and unacceptable.”

It should be noted that the issue of the status of the Serbian language has remained a sensitive issue in relations between the two countries since Montenegro gained independence in 2006. Although the Serbian language has official status in Montenegro, the language issue regularly causes political disputes. The Montenegrin government considers public statements by foreign entities on this topic as interference in internal affairs.
