UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has stated that the UN faces an imminent financial collapse due to non-payment of membership fees and a budget rule requiring the return of unspent funds.

According to Guterres’ letter obtained by the agency, the deepening crisis in the organization threatens the implementation of programs and increases the risk of financial collapse.
“The situation will worsen in the near future,” he noted.
According to the Secretary-General’s calculations, the organization’s financial reserves may be exhausted by July.
