Volkswagen has announced the recall of over 44,000 vehicles due to the risk of fire caused by overheating of high-voltage batteries.
Elchi.az reports that the recall decision covers the production of the brand’s popular electric SUV model, the ID.4, between 2023 and 2025. According to a statement from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), approximately 43,881 ID.4 vehicles will be recalled for a software update and, if necessary, battery replacement.
It has been determined that 670 of the vehicles included in the recall, specifically the 2023 and 2024 models, have alignment errors in the battery cell modules, further increasing the risk of fire.
Owners of these vehicles have been given important warnings to take additional measures until the repair is completed:
Parking the vehicle in an open space after the charging process is complete,
Avoiding overnight charging in enclosed spaces,
Avoiding the use of Level 3 DC fast charging stations,
Limiting the battery charge level to a maximum of 80%.
Volkswagen official service centers will carry out software updates and battery checks free of charge on all recalled vehicles.
In vehicles with faulty battery cells, the modules will be replaced to ensure safety standards. The company stated in a statement that customer safety is a priority and that it is working closely with the NHTSA to quickly inspect all vehicles.
This recall decision is seen as part of the growing safety sensitivity to high-voltage battery systems in the electric vehicle sector.
It has been announced that information letters will be sent to car owners starting in March.
Volkswagen emphasized that the ID.4 model is one of the brand’s fastest-growing electric vehicles and stated that it is working on additional safety measures to prevent similar problems in future models.
