“Three-quarters of European citizens are against Ukraine’s hasty accession to the European Union, while in Hungary, 95% of citizens share this opinion.”
Elchi.az reports that this was stated by Prime Minister Viktor Orban while commenting on the results of a survey conducted by the Hungarian Szazadveg (End of the Century) Institute of Political Science in EU countries.
“Three-quarters of Europeans reject Ukraine’s accelerated membership in the European Union. However, EU leaders in Brussels continue to move forward. They don’t care what the people think, and for now, only a few European governments have the power to resist Brussels’ will. Hungary is one of the exceptions,” Orban said.
He noted that, according to a recent survey by Szazadveg, 95% of Hungarians rejected Ukraine’s rapid accession to the EU because they wanted to protect their farmers, the safety of their families and peace in Hungary.
Orban emphasized that his government intends to be guided by the opinions of its citizens and will not allow Ukraine to join the EU.
“Despite the pressure, we will not budge,” the Prime Minister concluded.
