Venezuelan Interior Minister Diosdado Cabello has stated that there are no political prisoners in the country.
Elchi.az reports that in his weekly statements to VTV state television, Cabello responded to claims by the opposition and some NGOs that there are many political prisoners in Venezuelan prisons.
Cabello stated that 808 people have been released since December 2025, but those convicted of murder and drug trafficking have been excluded from this process.
Responding to the opposition and NGOs, Cabello said: “They are going crazy because they cannot get the list, there are no political prisoners in the country. We have nothing to hide and it has nothing to do with repression.”
According to local media, the human rights organization Foro Penal and the opposition front (PUD) have claimed that there are still many political prisoners in prisons and have called on the government to increase their release.
