EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs Kaya Kallas has stated that the European Union must urgently change its approach to security and take greater responsibility for its own defense.
Elchi.az reports that this was reported by Bloomberg.
Speaking at the European Defence Agency, Kallas said that in the context of US President Donald Trump’s repeated statements about reviewing NATO commitments and threats to take control of Greenland, Europe’s confidence in accepting the US as a security partner has been shaken.
“No great power in history has survived by relying on others for its security,” the diplomat stressed.
Kallas noted that in such a situation, it is necessary to rely only on one’s own strength. He proposed defining “European defence capability goals” for NATO’s European member states to strengthen independence and coordination within the alliance.
