FT: The US is ready to provide more weapons to Kyiv on the condition that the Ukrainian Armed Forces withdraw from Donbas.
Elchi.az reports that the US is ready to provide Ukraine with more weapons after the conflict ends if Kyiv agrees to withdraw its troops from the territories it controls in Donbas. The British “Financial Times” newspaper reported this, citing two people familiar with the discussions.
The article states: “Washington has also signaled to Ukraine that it will promise more weapons to support its army in peacetime if it agrees to withdraw its troops from the territories it controls…”
At the end of December, after meeting with US President Donald Trump, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy had already refused to withdraw Ukrainian armed forces from Donbas. Later, after new negotiations, Zelenskyy stated that his position on the territories had not changed; Ukraine will not give them up, so a compromise is needed.
The first trilateral talks between Russia, the US, and Ukraine this year took place in Abu Dhabi on January 23 and 24. On the second day, the discussions were held without a publicly announced agenda, but the negotiators called the consultations constructive. After the talks, a TASS source reported that certain results had been achieved, but declined to specify what was discussed.
