Approximately 300 fighters of the ISIS terrorist group have been transferred from Syria to Iraqi prisons.
Elchi.az reports that the Shafaq News information portal reported this with reference to a government source.
By the decision of the Ministry of Justice, the detainees will be distributed to Iraqi prisons intended for convicts in terrorism cases a few days ago.
“These facilities have a high level of security and are located in safe areas,” the report said.
“It is noted that they will be tried according to Iraqi laws, and fighters who are not citizens of the republic will be handed over to the governments of their countries, provided that the sentences imposed on them in their homeland are executed.
The number of detained ISIS members is expected to increase, as coordinated work on this issue continues between Baghdad and Damascus. According to CENTCOM, about 7,000 ISIS prisoners will be transferred to “safe” locations under Iraqi control.
