Israel seeks a new deal with Trump

FT: Israel will negotiate a new deal with Trump.
Elchi.az reports that, according to The Financial Times, Israel is preparing to negotiate a new ten-year security agreement with US President Donald Trump to extend US military support.
The current memorandum of mutual assistance between Israel and the United States is valid until 2028. According to this memorandum, the United States has committed to provide Jerusalem with 38 billion dollars in military aid in the 2019-2028 financial years.
Currently, discussions are underway regarding the support format for the coming years. The newspaper notes that the Israeli authorities are preparing for the future without billions of dollars in American grants and plan to focus on joint projects and technological cooperation.
Also, in an interview with The Economist magazine in January, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu noted that Israel intends to gradually reduce its dependence on American aid over 10 years, noting that “the process has already begun.” He noted that Israel will most likely not want a full extension of the US’s $38 billion in military aid.
On October 9, 2025, Israel and Hamas signed agreements on the first phase of a peace agreement in the Gaza Strip. On October 13, Trump addressed the Israeli parliament and announced the end of the Gaza conflict. In January 2026, US President Donald Trump’s special representative, Stephen Vitkoff, announced the start of the second phase of Trump’s Gaza peace plan, which envisages the disarmament of Hamas and the demilitarization of the Gaza Strip.
