US President Donald Trump has made a new statement regarding the incident in Minneapolis, Minnesota, where a man was shot while being detained by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers.
Elchi.az reports that in a five-minute phone interview with The Wall Street Journal, Trump twice avoided directly answering the question of whether the federal officer was justified in shooting Alex Pretti. When pressed further, Trump said, “We’re investigating it, we’re investigating everything, and we’re going to come out with results.”
“I don’t like any shooting”
Trump criticized 37-year-old Pretti, who was killed by an ICE agent in Minneapolis on Saturday morning, for carrying a weapon during the protest. “I don’t like any shooting.” Trump said, “But I also don’t like somebody walking into a protest with two magazines, a very powerful gun, fully loaded. That doesn’t look good either.”
Trump also indicated that he is open to withdrawing immigration enforcement personnel in the Minneapolis area at a later stage.
Although he did not specify a time frame for when the agents would withdraw, Trump praised the work being done in Minnesota, saying when asked if he would be leaving soon, “We’re going to put a different group in there for financial shenanigans.”
