Shingles vaccine may slow biological aging

A new study from the University of Southern California (USC) has revealed that the shingles vaccine may not only prevent painful skin rashes, but also slow down the body’s biological clock.
Elchi.az reports that the study, published in January 2026, provides strong evidence that vaccines can be part of healthy aging strategies in addition to preventing infection.
Effective against inflammation and molecular aging
Researchers analyzed data from more than 3,800 participants aged 70 and older, examining seven different areas of biological aging. The results showed that people who received the shingles vaccine had younger biological profiles compared to those who were not vaccinated.
It was found that vaccinated participants had significantly lower levels of “inflammation” (age-related chronic inflammation).
Molecular markers in DNA and gene expression processes were observed to age more slowly in vaccinated individuals.
It was reported that these positive effects were most evident in the first three years after vaccination, but the effects lasted for four years or more.
